PROJECTION SCREEN

Members who have struggled to put up our club projector screen, or take it down, will know that it is a challenge. First you have to try and work out what levers to press to do what, and then there is the strain on the fingers and thumbs in raising what is quite a heavy duty screen. Not an easy task for those whose hands are not as strong as they once were. It's a two-person job. Mind you it's a good quality screen and it has done us proud over the years.

Our new chairman asked why couldn't we have a pull down screen fixed to the wall? Also why can't the speakers be permanently fixed to the wall instead of having to take them home every week, and why have cables dangling all over the place? (Chairmen are very good at asking questions!) But he was right, so the committee put the ideas to the church authorities. I am pleased to report that they agreed to our proposals and so during the summer recess things have been happening.

Firstly Dennis Burke - our resident electronics expert and technical guru - has completely overhauled the audio systems and built new amplifiers for the club. At the time of writing experiments are being undertaken to see if it would be worthwhile to upgrade our existing speakers.

Whilst this has been going on Don Currie has been researching pull down projector screens. He successfully located a 'good as new' screen supplier in Southampton and then convinced the poor chap that he should sell it to us for the a 10th of the cost for a new one! What a shrewd negotiator!

So with special thanks to Dennis and Don and everybody else involved, we will start this new season with a smart new screen, good sound, less work in setting up, no dangling wires, and all without having to really call on the clubs savings. What a team!!!
