NEW PRODUCTION NEEDED
by Neil Hodgson

Many of you know that the film, Caversham Remembered is one
of the main contributors to the Club's financial well being. Made
some 4 years ago, and you will have seen elsewhere we have sold our
1OOOth copy recently.
That film, good as it is, cannot be relied upon to provide our income
for too much longer. We need to look for another idea or topic to
create a successor to Caversham Remembered.
I believe that the success of CR is due to it's target audience
being very proud of where they live. They consider Caversham to
be a village, and never just a suburb of Reading. It has it's own
identity and centre and lives and breathes independently of it's
less attractive neighbour. Such community spirit, along with visual
charm and appeal is rare, but not unique.
Locally we enjoy some of the most picturesque places in the country.
There is a tremendous amount of history in the area that can be
brought to life by video. However we need to consider that one of
the key successes to CR was its broad appeal to local residents,
visitors and those who just like Caversham. Locally, another such
place is Henley.
Henley is picturesque, full of contrast and overflowing with camera
opportunities. It is a key tourist area enjoying year round visits
from people from all over the world. Of course the regatta is the
main event on which Henley has built its fame. But that is the commercial
value of a video on Henley, both locally and throughout the world.
The focal point of the river is obvious. But we also have the local
architecture, history, industiy (include the brewery!) and events.
To move this forward I would like to create a team of members to
start to pull together ideas for a film on Henley. We will need cameras,
lights, microphones, editing kit, researchers, gaffers, you name it
- we need it! If you are keen to get involved in making a bigger production
and learning from each other how to do it then please make yourself
known.
