CHAIRMAN'S CHAT
Neil Hodgson

It's the end of August and another season starts. For me, one which I approach quite differently than in the past as I have the honour of being elected your Chairman. I do hope that I can fulfill your confidence and trust in me. I shall put a lot of effort into attempting just that.

Your new committee has already been at work through the hot summer months designing and preparing for the new season. Mark Chapman, assisted by new committee members Francis Crossley and Mike Stephenson, has prepared another interesting programme of events.

We will have speakers from all sides of the film making industry as well as our usual crop of competitions and practical evenings. The theme this year is "Getting to Know Your Camera". We plan to show you what all the buttons and gadgets and gizmos do so you can experiment and create stunning visuals just like the techno boys in Hollywood!

One crusade I would like to start is to encourage more members to show their films at club nights. We tend to see the same old faces enter the competitions and perhaps some feel they can't compete with the digital gang. Believe me, it is not always quality of image that decides a winner. We have had winners last year who made films without computers and produced excellent, enjoyable films that deserved their awards. This invite includes the celluloid brigade - we see all too little of your excellent work!

If you don't want to enter a competition, but would like to show your film then please ask. We will fit it into the programme. Chris Booth did just this with his family history film last year. It proved to be one of the best evenings of the year. So apart from getting to know your cameras, let's get to know each other!

Have a great season at RFVM.
