CHAIRMAN'S CHAT - Brian Hibbitt

As I sit writing this Chairman's Chat I am conscious not only that my press deadline for the magazine is fast approaching, but so is the end of the year and (depending on how you were taught maths at school) also the beginning of a new millennium.

The New Year is traditionally the time for reflection when we all sit down and think up our resolutions for the new year, in the hope that we will learn by our past mistakes and do it better next time. So what should we have on the list for next year for our Club?

Eveiy year we attempt to undertake a survey of our member's likes and dislikes about the Club and the programme. Although the response is generally very positive, we do attempt to listen and to react to any ideas and suggestions that are put forward. However in the main there are very few suggestions for new activities and this either means that we are totally satisfying members needs, or what is probably more likely is that you the members havn't got any better ideas than the programme secretary!

My point in raising this at this time however, is to emphasise that if anyone does have ideas or requests for specific topics to be covered please don't wait for the end of the season to fill in a survey form. Just let us know and we will do our best to fit something in - we always need things up our sleeve to fill in the gaps when a planned speaker or event doesn't happen.

It is unfortunately a truism that the success of any club or organisation usually depends on the efforts of a very small number of people.

You are very fortunate in having a hard working committee looking after your interests, and just as the new year is a time to look forward, the end of a year is also a time to look back, and I would therefore like to take this opportunity on your behalf of thanking them all for their efforts and support during the past year.

All that now remains if I am not to incur the wrath of our hard working secretary and magazine editor by sending my copy in late is to wish you all a very happy Christmas and I hope that this first year of the new millennium will be both memorable and successful for all of us and our Club.
