Demonstration (eg origami)
Devise and shoot a practical demonstration
Key skill:

  • Single and multiple camera shooting
  • Devising a shot list and getting coverage
  • Lighting for close up
  • Ensuring good sound for both narrative and foley

Interview
Plan and shoot interviews covering the same subject that can be into a short montage that tells a story without voice over.
Key skill:

  • Plan an interview and interview technique
  • Lighting and backdrops
  • Varying the shot and getting coverage
  • Getting good sound. How to cope with noisy environments

In a stationary car
Script and shoot a scene between 2 people in a stationary car. Could be a stake out, a seceret rendezvous, a lover's quarrel, what ever you want but must be under 3 minutes.
Key skill:

  • Shooting in confined spaces
  • Lighting in difficult spaces
  • Getting good sound away from camera
  • Creative angles

Atmosphere and sound
Script and shoot a short scene without dialogue of 2 people meeting. Use sound, music and foley to create an atmosphere.
Key skill:

  • Shooting in confined spaces
  • Lighting in difficult spaces
  • Getting good sound away from camera
  • Creative angles

One off event or performance
Plan and shoot a musical performance. A friend of Roger's is a guitarist who will play while we film him.
Key skill:

  • Planning
  • Recording sound off camera and with a wide dynamic range
  • Set dressing so mics and lights are off camera
  • Multi camera shooting
  • Lighting for performance
